Habitat Restoration Educator

In Partnership with the Confluence Environmental Center and the Columbia Slough Watershed Council (CSWC), the Member will help lead the CSWC Restoration Education program. The main focus will be leading High School youth mentors and elementary school students as they learn about habitat restoration and assist with a project in a natural area near their schools. Tangential projects include related classroom lesson support, restoration site surveys, and event preparation and staffing. Time will be spent on k-12 (primarily 4-6th grade) classroom and field trip place-based science education (25%); restoration program focus, including student planting projects (50%); and outreach and event support (25%). Expected work setting will be approximately 50% office, 25% field, and 25% classroom. Outdoor activities will include leading students in planting or clearing invasive plants (fall and winter months), site surveys (spring and fall,) flatwater paddling (canoe or kayak), and teaching assistance.

The Member will participate in Confluence led professional development activities: Professional Development Series, completing a Change Agent Project, team meetings, National Service events and other self-directed development opportunities (20%). In addition, professional development through the CSWC will include networking with area agency and other non-profits.

Application Process:

Project Supervisors will conduct all initial interviews and recommend top candidates to Confluence by July 21, 2017. Confluence will conduct final interviews and offer positions throughout August 2017. Here’s how to apply:

STEP 3:

Confluence Interview & Placement: Final interviews cannot be conducted until Step 1 & 2 are complete.
