How do you want to feel on a Friday night, with the weekend stretching ahead of you? On May 22, join us at the Columbia Children’s Arboretum for yoga and forest bathing at sunset; you’ll leave feeling both calm and rejuvenated. This offering will help you unwind your mind and body on a beautiful Friday evening in late Spring.
To start the experience we’ll move through a gentle, accessible yoga practice to feel more grounded. Then we’ll go on a forest bathing walk, moving intentionally through the natural world.
Forest bathing, also called forest therapy, is inspired by the Japanese practice of shinrin-yoku. It is a guided experience that allows you to connect with nature, community, and with yourself. Your guide will offer a series of mindful invitations to explore the natural environment with care and appreciation. Each invitation is crafted to connect your senses with the natural world. This practice helps calm your nervous system, awaken your senses, and nourish your whole self.
Our guide will be Julie Jansen of Earthbody Presence. Julie is a certified Forest Therapy Guide with the Association of Nature and Forest therapy and a yoga teacher at PSU. She will lead our small group as the sun sets and day transitions into night.
Getting There: We’ll meet at the east entrance of the Columbia Children’s Arboretum. Make sure to navigate to 974 NE Meadow Ln - please note this is a private address, but the closest location to map. Free street parking is available.
Taking public transportation? Bus #6 makes stops nearby.
What to bring: Pack along water and come prepared for the weather as the event will happen rain or shine. It is not necessary to bring anything yoga-related. Mats will be available, if desired. Light snacks and tea will be available at the check-in.
