Join the Feminist Bird Club PDX (FBC PDX), Columbia Slough Watershed Council, and Portland Parks & Recreation for a "birdy and dirty" birding and planting event at Whitaker Ponds!  

FBC PDX is a volunteer-run birding club focused on providing opportunities for historically marginalized folks to learn and find community. Whitaker Ponds is home to many bird species (over 189 species have been seen at this park). Come learn about these winged creatures and contribute to the natural habitat by removing weedy plants like thistle, ivy and blackberry, helping to increase the diversity of native wildflowers, shrubs, and trees at this unique natural area.   

We will spend half our time walking around the pond looking and listening for birds, and the other half of the time removing weedy plants, to help improve the habitat for all the critters that live at Whitaker Ponds.

Parking and Public Transit: There is a small parking lot at Whitaker Ponds. If it is full, please park 1 block north on N Buffalo Street. TriMet bus #75 stops at NE Columbia at the intersection with NE 47th Ave.

How to prepare: Please dress for the weather, wear sturdy, waterproof shoes, and bring personal water bottle and snacks. Bring binoculars if you have them.

What will be provided: Tools, gloves, project instruction, coffee/tea and light snacks will be provided. There will also be extra binoculars available.

Bathroom & Accessibility: We will be working in an area that has uneven ground, with tall thick grass. There will be a porta potty (ADA compliant) within walking distance.
