Tree Identification Walk

  • Donald L Robertson City Park 24300 Northeast Halsey Street Wood Village, OR, 97060 United States (map)

Have you ever wondered how to identify the tree species growing in your park? Join arborists Ryan (Nidus Consulting) and Thomas (Friends of Trees) on a walk through Donald L Robertson City Park in Woods Village looking at trees. They will focus on observing specific characteristics of trees to gather more information. Sometimes, this information can be used to assign a name to a plant, but knowing the name is less important than observing and talking about what makes different trees special and amazing. This event is free and open to all ages, minors must be accompanied by an adult.

Getting There: We will meet at near the Wood Village City Hall building! Free parking is available in multiple parking lots. Follow Columabia Slough Event Signs for the meeting point.

Taking public transportation? Bus Route #77 drops you off at NE Halsey and 244th. The park is about a .2 mile walk from the bus stop.

What to bring: Pack along water, shoes you don't mind getting a little dirty or wet! Boots or walking shoes would be best. Dress for the weather. Feel free to bring binoculars, note taking devices, and/or anything that may help you learn about trees in an outdoor environment. Light snacks and drinks will be provided.

Accessibility: Donald L Robertson Park has public restrooms near the main entrance and playground area. We will be traveling along a mix of flat concrete paths, packed trail, off-trail athletic field turf, and off-trail natural area/disc golf course. The trail and off-trail natural area portions do get relatively steep in places.
