Presented by Vanport Mosaic and Columbia Slough Watershed Council, as part of the 8th Annual Vanport Mosaic Festival, May 18-29, 2023

May 25, 2023  |  6-8pm  |  The Historic Alberta House, 5131 NE 23rd Ave, Portland OR

2023 marks the 75th anniversary of the flood that destroyed Vanport, once Oregon’s second-largest city and the largest WWII federal housing project in the United States.

With special guest Mr. ED WASHINGTON, Vanport survivor and civic leader. This educational speaker event will feature Mr. Washinton, who lived in Vanport during the 1948 floods and is also Metro Council's first Black councilor. He will be speaking about his experience as a resident of Vanport. There will also be a free screening of short oral history documentaries from Vanport Mosaic's living archive, including the largest collection of memories of life in the "Miracle City," the day of the flood, and its aftermath. All are welcome to attend!

Come early to experience the exhibit: "Artworks of Henk Pander: the Climate Refugees of Vanport".

The event is part of the 8th Vanport Mosaic Festival - two weeks of memory activism to commemorate Oregon’s Katrina-like disaster with exhibits, performances, documentary screenings and oral history recordings, tours of the historic Vanport sites, and opportunities to honor the Vanport Community.
