The Columbia Slough Watershed Council, City of Portland Urban Forestry, and 350 PDX are hosting a springtime tree walk in the Eliot and Irvington neighborhoods. Come discuss trees, history, and creating a more just future with us in NE Portland.
Join Columbia Slough Watershed Council, City of Portland Urban Forestry, and 350 PDX for a free educational urban tree walk! As we move from neighborhood to neighborhood, the trees here tell stories about the past that can be seen and felt today, inviting us to examine our urban canopy and racism in Portland. Local tree experts Marissa Richerson (Urban Forestry) and Ryan Gilpin (Nidus Consulting) will share not just information about the trees they see, but about the stories that those trees hold within them. Join us and share your stories at this dynamic, outdoor conversation bouncing from tree to tree, story to story, street to street. This event is free and open to all ages.
What to bring: Pack along water and snacks if you’d like. Drinks and light snacks will also be provided. Wear shoes comfortable for walking.
Getting there: We will meet at Matt Dishman Community Center. There is free parking in their parking lot, or lots of free street parking all along Knott St, Rodney Ave, or along Williams Ave.
Public Transportation: Bus line #6 has a stop at MLK Blvd & Knott St. Bus lines #4 and #44 make nearby stops, as well.
