The Council is proud to fiscally sponsor People of Color Outdoors, an organization created to provide Black, Indigenous, and People of Color a safe and welcoming way to enjoy nature in Oregon while learning about nature and the environment.

People of Color Outdoors (POCO) is founded on the belief that having regular access to nature is something that all people should be able to do safely and free from intimidation, fear, or feeling unwelcome because of their color. With over 1,350 members, POCO helps Black, Indigenous, and People of Color (BIPOC) connect deeply with nature by hosting frequent outdoor adventures where they can learn skills such as canoeing, trail running, fishing, hiking, or rock climbing. Members build confidence as they learn and succeed. They return to natural spaces and repeat the experiences on their own, often with guests in tow. POCO also connects participants with options for learning outdoors career options, networking, environmental education, history, outdoors skills, and more.

As POCO’s fiscal sponsor, we encourage you to visit their website, where you can learn more. They can also be found on MeetUp and on Facebook. Gifts to the Council that are restricted to POCO can also be made here.
